Google dominates the search engine market but by how much?

We use search engines everyday to search for news, products, services, locations and whatever else is on our mind. Search engines decide how to organise and display websites that match our search queries.
We all know Google has the biggest search engine market share but by how much and how close behind is Bing and Yahoo? As of February 2010 the search engine market share in the US looked as follows: (soruce: Nielsen)
- Google (65.2%)
- Yahoo (14.1%)
- Bing (12.5%)
- Other (8.2%)
Google clearly leads in the US - even if you were to add together Yahoo and Bing’s market share, they wouldn’t make up half of Googles. Compare this to the UK, and we see as follows: (source: paidcontent)
- Google (88%)
- Yahoo (3.9%)
- Bing (3.6%)
- Other(4.5%)
In the UK, Google’s market share dominates Bing and Yahoo even further by a huge 88% and is still growing month after month. So there you have it - it's still clearly important to opimtise your website for Yahoo and Bing but if time and money is short, Google is where your money should be spent.
